Social Media Workshop ‘24

Image
The 2024 Social Media Workshop has officially wrapped up! It was an amazing experience and I am so grateful I was able to attend. I learned a lot of intriguing things about what it’s like to run a social media platform for a business, or even for personal gain. There were four different sessions and a keynote speaker, so no one left having learned nothing! In each session there were two speakers to choose from. The speakers in attendance were Amy Hertsenberg, Sally Stearns, Meghann Winters-Rowe, Dillan Kanya, Dayton Barnett, Colin Wylie, Mallory Grayson, Joe Dunay and Brandon Daniels.  Throughout this blog post, I will give a brief overview of what each speaker spoke on. One assignment for my Principles of Social Media class was to live Tweet throughout the duration of one session. I will go into more detail about that specific session I chose to Tweet about later on in this post. After we registered in the morning we were able to hear from the keynote speaker, Amy Hertsenberg! She spo

"9 to 5" Rehearsals!

If you have been following along with my blog from the beginning you would know that I am a musical theater major here at ONU! Although I am pursuing a minor in marketing and really enjoy that department, theatre is truly my biggest passion! I always tell people that I am not a crazy theatre kid, and to be honest, those who make theatre their whole life really annoy me, LOL! However, I always say that I am just a person who does theatre because I believe I was given my talents for a reason.  Choosing to come to ONU to pursue my degree in musical theatre wasn't a difficult decision because they truly run an incredible department here and I know I am getting some of the very best training! Last semester we went through an extensive audition process for all of the spring semester shows. I was so nervous because I wanted to be in a show so badly, but I knew it wasn't common for freshman to get into shows their first year. However, I persevered and made it to the final callback for

Spring Break Recap!

Image
The worst time of the year has officially come. That time that I'm talking about is having to come back to school after spring break. It's a miserable feeling! However, I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to be able to go home and have a week off from school. While many people were in Florida or on cruises, I on the other hand just had a relaxing week at home.  Let's rewind to before break started. I do not have a car on campus so my older sister made the 8-hour drive here on Thursday night to spend the night with me and go with me to my classes on Friday. It was so nice to spend time with her and show her around campus. I had classes until 3:50 p.m. on Friday so I made sure I was all packed and ready to go right after my last class. We started our journey back and made it home at 1:00 a.m. On Saturday I was up bright and early getting ready for a fun day with my high school friends! Most of our spring breaks aligned so we made sure to take advantage of that! I drov

I have talked about how to create and optimize your business accounts on several different social platforms and today I want to walk you through creating a professi onal X account! For those who don't know, X is formally known as Twitter. The name change occurred when Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022. Musk decided that Twitter needed a rebrand in July of 2023 and changed the platform's name. X is a platform social microblogging platform for people to connect with friends and businesses.  Many businesses take advantage of this platform to help gain more traffic to their business. Let's walk through how to create a professional profile on X and use it to your advantage! There are six components of a professional X profile and it

The Instagram Algorithm

Image
Social media algorithms have always confused me. I don't understand how one post will pop up on my feed yet my friend is following that same account but doesn't see that particular post. Chapter 5 tries to discuss a little bit about how the Instagram algorithm works. However, sometimes I really do feel that it is just random! On Instagram, the algorithm is different throughout each feature. That means that the regular feed, stories, explore and reels all have different algorithms that are tailored specifically to them. In the newest Instagram update, your feed is a mix of recent posts from accounts you follow and recommended posts from other users that you are not following. Instagram creates this feed algorithm by monitoring your activity and what type of posts you typically interact with. All of these factors go into what shows up on your feed while you are scrolling through. Instagram's feature of stories has a different algorithm compared to the regular feed. This algor

First College ER Trip!

Do you know that saying that goes like "God gives his strongest soldiers the toughest battles"? Well lately it has felt like God has been throwing all kinds of battles my way! I dealt with some family issues at the beginning of the semester, then I got COVID-19 and was in quarantine for 5 days and now I was just in the hospital this past weekend! However, I somehow am still making it through the semester and looking forward to getting a break this upcoming week. Are you wondering why I ended up in the hospital? Don't worry, I'll give you the whole story. It all began on this past Saturday morning. I woke up feeling fine until I was up and moving around and noticed a weird feeling in my upper abdomen. I didn't think anything of it so I continued with my plans for the day. Two of my friends asked me to walk to Buckeye East for breakfast, which is about a 15-minute walk from our dorms.  As we got farther into our walk I noticed that the pain in my upper abdomen began
