Essentials of Social Media Marketing

Image
As I wrap up the final assignment for my social media class, I wanted to take some time and reflect on our textbook for this course. We used "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" by Michelle Charello as our guidance throughout this class. I personally really enjoyed this textbook! I know some people had mixed feelings about it, but overall I think it was very helpful. It was incredibly easy to access since it was an online textbook. I hate carrying around heavy books in my bag, so I love it when things are online. With the purchase of this book we also got access to the simternship that was one of our major assignments for this class. Stukent provided us with great resources to aid our learning.  All the chapters followed a similar setup. I liked the routine of this. It helped me understand exactly what I needed to know by laying it out clearly. At the end of each chapter it also provided a practice quiz which I utilized for the two main exams we took in this class. The text...

Social Media Simternship

Image
One of our main assignments for the Principles of Social Media class I have been taking this semester was completing a simulation of what it is like to be a digital marketer for a company. There were 12 rounds in total and we had the majority of the semester to complete them. I remember feeling overwhelmed when we first got the assignment because I had never done anything like this before, but once I got going I noticed that each round got easier.  The Stukent Social Media Simternship is a simulation that helps the student work on creating organic social media posts, paid social posts, work with influencers and know how to do all of this while balancing a strict budget. While doing these main tasks we also have to decide the proper way to respond to customer messages, examine prior company data, analyze strategies and more. The Simternship is based on working for a bag company called Buhi Supply Co. They offer a variety of bags for every occasion which helps marketing strategies....

All Things Pinterest!

Image
Pinterest was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp in November 2009. This platform was very slow growing compared to other social media platforms, but it now has an average of 445 million monthly users.  Pinterest is a platform that follows a pinboard-style network and allows users to discover and pin ideas onto their personalized boards. A pin is a visual with an online link embedded in it so that when a user clicks that visual it takes them to a website to learn more about that pin. As far as numbers go, Pinterest has a predominant group of Women users. This platform is currently ranked #15 of the most popular social media platforms. There are several different pin formats that can be used for brands to reach their target audience. These formats are static pins, video pins, rich pins, collections, idea pins, try on product pins and takes. You can also set up a Pinterest shop on this platform as a way to grow your business! In order to start a business Pinterest ...

Social Media Workshop ‘24

Image
The 2024 Social Media Workshop has officially wrapped up! It was an amazing experience and I am so grateful I was able to attend. I learned a lot of intriguing things about what it’s like to run a social media platform for a business, or even for personal gain. There were four different sessions and a keynote speaker, so no one left having learned nothing! In each session there were two speakers to choose from. The speakers in attendance were Amy Hertsenberg, Sally Stearns, Meghann Winters-Rowe, Dillan Kanya, Dayton Barnett, Colin Wylie, Mallory Grayson, Joe Dunay and Brandon Daniels.  Throughout this blog post, I will give a brief overview of what each speaker spoke on. One assignment for my Principles of Social Media class was to live Tweet throughout the duration of one session. I will go into more detail about that specific session I chose to Tweet about later on in this post. After we registered in the morning we were able to hear from the keynote speaker, Amy Hertsenberg! She...

Keeping Up With Kayleigh: A Podcast!

Image
I have always enjoyed listening to podcasts while doing various activities. I am the type of person that cannot do anything in silence so it is important to always have something playing in the background. I never thought of creating my own podcast but this class has brought me out of my comfort zone and I finally was able to create one of my own! I was challenged when thinking of who to interview for this podcast and it took me several days to think of. Then I finally remembered I have a family member who has been in the marketing industry for years! My brother, Justin Jarkowsky, is the Recruiting Success Manager & Marketing Department Team Lead for the company Yellowstone Local. Before this he worked for several other companies before stepping into this leadership role.  Making this podcast was so much easier than I thought it would be. In my head I thought you needed all the expensive recording equipment and a fancy set-up to record a podcast, but when I really took the...

Vlogging in Our Generation

Image
In my opinion vlogging is one of the most entertaining things to watch in our generation. The fun thing about vlogs is that the creator can talk about anything they want and change it up all the time to get the most out of their content creation.  Vlogs can be anything like a day in the life, get ready with me, unboxing packages, reviews on products and much more. I personally find vlogs so entertaining and love the varieties of various subjects. My favorite types of vlogs are day in the life vlogs because you get to see so many adventures that people go on.  Although blogging is still very popular, the younger generation has turned to vlogging as the primary source of hearing about people's lives and what they are up to. Because of this, many influencers take up vlogging over blogging. A vlog is simply a blog in video format, and teens and young adults these days would much rather watch a video than read an article. Occasionally, some influencers still keep a blog and insert ...

My Passions in Life

Image
Welcome to my blog! I am so excited that you decided to visit today. I am Kayleigh Jarkowsky, a freshman Musical Theatre major with a minor in Marketing here at Ohio Northern. I wanted to dedicate my first blog to helping my readers learn a little bit more about me, my passions, and why I decided to come to ONU and study these two fields. I was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, so life here in Ohio sure can be very different than my life back home. I have two loving parents, 4 siblings, and 2 sisters-in-law with whom I am very close, so living so far away from them is not easy some days. I am 19 years old, so I am the second to youngest in the sibling lineup. I also have one dog, named Maggie, who is a six-year-old Black Lab and Border Collie mix. Not seeing her every day is so hard, especially since I am a huge dog person! I was raised in a Christian household so faith is very important to me.  My family! I grew up in a very musically inclined family, and because ...
